Grandpa was a racehorse owning member at the Hong Kong Jockey Club. For racehorse owners, there were specific areas that were exclusive to them, such as the
The 拉頭馬 celebratory photograph of Grandpa's victory at the Hong Kong Jockey Club shows Grandpa’s horse, called 宇宙先鋒 Cosmos One.
Grandpa really liked being a racehorse owner. At his peak, he owned a total of 5 horses, though not all of them were under his name, even though he paid for all of them. This is due to the Jockey Club having rules on how many horses each owner can have, and they have to draw lots each year to get the quota to get more horses. These ‘friends’ from the 拉頭馬 photograph are those who ‘own’ a horse in name, but the horse was paid for by Grandpa. [CM’s note: No matter how much I love and respect Grandpa, this was a really dumb move.]
大表舅母 is the wife of Mi Por's son, Dominic So. Leonard So is their son, and my cousin from that extended family.
Cousin Leonard also became involved in performance art and is an illustrator. Charlotte runs into him at Asia Art Archive & at art markets in Hong Kong.
Their family migrated to New Zealand.Grandma, Uncle Edward & Charlotte's birthdays are very close together, so Grandpa & Grandma often hosted birthday banquets in Grandma's honour, but Uncle Edward and Charlotte would be included in the cake cutting. Grandma's birthday is 24th of the first month of the lunar year (正月), while Uncle Edward's is on the 26th, and Charlotte's is on the 23rd. Actual Gregorian Calendar birthdays: Grandma's birthday is 16 February, Uncle Edward is 22 February, and Charlotte is 12 March.
We are no longer on speaking terms with Bonnie.
