  • 五叔婆 is a distant relative of grandmas, so technically her relatives are also distant relatives of grandma.

We are no longer on speaking terms with 五叔婆, because when grandma died, she sent us a WhatsApp photograph of her doctor’s appointment, saying that she won’t be attending Grandma’s funeral. Doctor’s appointments happen during the day, Taoist funerals are always after 7pm.

  • We have exiled 6 Gu Por & her family from our family. Details to be included in the Assholes section.

  • Great-Great Grandfather Cheung (Grandpa’s mother’s father) had 3 wives, and a total of 18 children (though many, especially sons died in infancy).

  • 7 姨太婆 (Great-Grandma’s 7th sister) was close to Great-Grandma (who was 6th of the 18 children)

  • 表姑媽 is Modern 8 Por’s eldest daughter, and is Mum & EE’s godmother. She knew English so she named Mum & EE Pauline and Julianna.

Modern 8 Por (表姨 Tai Por) is 姨太婆’s younger cousin. She taught Grandma to convert to Catholicism and baptise Mum & EE so they could enroll in Maryknoll Convent School. Modern 8 Por & her husband (Mao Suk/ Cat Uncle) were part of the 1st generation of bra factory owners in Hong Kong, and Grandpa & Grandma started working for them as a fabric cutter and a seamstress, learning from them, before they started their own factory. Grandpa & Grandma really respected them.

  • 牛表叔公 & Por are cousin Leon’s grandparents. 牛表叔公 is Grandpa’s cousin, while 牛表叔婆 is a relative of Mi Por through marriage.

牛表叔公, Tsui Wai Yuen 表叔公, & Grandpa’s mums are all sisters from Great-Great-Grandfather’s first wife.

  • 表姑媽’s name is 吳冠珍. She’s the eldest daughter of the eldest daughter from the Cheung Family (eldest sister of Great-Grandma). Her nickname was 煙罐 because she smoked a lot. And in the 1950s, smokes were contained in a can.

  • Family Tree to be illustrated soon.
